I possibly found the culprit. I tried to degrease part of skink base rim and paint sticks to it just fine. I will try to degrease priest and sunblood tomorrow and we'll see.
I´ve remade platform for Ark of Sotek. It now fits like a glove. I think I can now proceed with degreasing model and prime it in next days. Old vs. New: With Ark installed:
Sunblood is almost finished, I just have to (again) grab some black paint at home to paint rim of base. I think that for "saved" prepainted model that was rubberized by IPA, it still looks quite okay Next is another priest. I managed to break his staff during alcohol brushing, so he is patiently waiting for tomorrow.
I decided that today will be all about the fun. Kiddo is trying to reach my "in progress" skinks and since I already painted him couple of various minis for supervised play (We open closet with my models, I let him hold predefined minis and we make sounds they make), so I used one of spare skinks and painted it as frog we watch together at park. I will coat it in varnish and it should be fully dry before my shift ends Also, I have made deal with fellow player nearby. Soon, the exchange will be made of some kharadron overlords models for second stegadon. My current one is clipped from sprue and I am at cleaning stage.
After more than a year, I fired up proxxon cutter and god! That felt great! I really missed cutting XPS, it is such a relaxing job. Anyway, I managed to mess up dimensions for bottom layer of Realmshaper. So I'll make it from offcuts glued together. Proxxon has max height of about 140mm (about 5 1/2") and I needed to thin down my 50mm XPS, so original plan was to make two strips of 152x65mm and leave gap where I later cut out stairs. I managed to cut it shorter that 152mm so I chamfered bunch of offcuts and I will glue bottom step from multiple pieces. In case I mess something up during work, I made enough to make two Realmshapers. This way, I should need proxxon again only to make dent for stairs after it is assembled.
Last day at work before factory holiday. I managed to finish up this little guy: After I took picture, I noticed smidge of red paint on base. It is already corrected. For next week, I will be lucky if I even finish those skinks, since I´ll be on nonstop kid duty. Edit: Also, kiddo was not impressed by Froggy the skink
I had some time during weekend and managed to work on realmshaper. Bottom level glued and pinned during glue drying: Cut out for stairs: And stonework partially done:
Friday night fun! I managed to mostly finish Realmshaper, at least assembly wise. Stonework is done, texture all around is finished and I glued last stairs minute ago. All I need to do before painting is to cut out 20 plates for glyphs amd glue them on. Here is handy jig for stairs I made from cereal box, which I then used as template and made from XPS. And here is current status.
I might make smaller one for Saurian, this one would be too big for quadrupedal one I have in plan converting, but thanks for idea... Man, now I really want to start working on Dread Saurian base... Edit: I am idiot who can't count to four
Morning bird gets... to paint the ziggurat I got up at 6 AM, so I could slap two coats of black on it. Wet pictures looked bad, so I let it dry properly.
Allright, which one of you told my better half about me complaining about not doing enough models? She told me to get to table and relax while kiddo is asleep. It's not even my birthday Anyways ...
I am pretty pleased right now. It is not perfect, but darn I love how that lightning came out. Also, priest seems satisfied. Alrighty, I need to design those plates for 3D print and paint those lightning posts. Wish me luck.
Great progress!! It looks stunning, man. The lightning is very thematic. Keep upbthe great work Grrr, Imrahil
Thanks a lot! I now need to figure out banners for my warriors, as I had only two spares, but that is a problem for future Sleepy. I also found out that after finishing 3D models for those panels, price of printing would be more than whole rest of realmshaper cost me. Back to the drawing board...
I am back at work. Today I spent lunch break by getting to car and driving to exchange spot where I switched some of my spare Kharadrons for second Stegadon on sprue. Lovely deal and I hope I´ll get to at least glue the first one soon.
Right? And considering those kharadrons were cheap second hand too, I basically got that steggie for less than half the price.
Today I spent my lunch break finishing plates for realmshaper. I decided I'll do it as reast of models, from what I have at my disposal. So I just cut bunch of cardboard from back of old calendar, painted it metallic and freehanded random symbols on it. Also, about week ago, I sent my friend batch of files to print and told him that there is no pressure and I have plenty models to paint so far. Yesterday I delivered him IPA we ordered and he gave me whole batch already printed. I now have two units of temple guards, another solar engine bastiladon, skink chief (for fun probably) and two spiked lizards to be used as salamanders together with handlers. Oh, and rest of those clubs I need for warriors. Darn, I have stuff to do. At least first stegadon is ready for glue, GW bastiladon is clipped from sprue ready to be cleaned of mold lines and schleich bastiladon degreased for priming.
